My 19 month old DS picked up a very nasty sickness bug over Xmas - he was vomiting for 6 days on and off (more violently the first few days) and it really knocked him for six. No diarrhoea or fever but just a lot of vomiting and he lost quite a bit of weight from it/not eating for a week. Myself and DH also picked it up and were really poorly so certain it was a nasty bug.
1.5 weeks ago, DS had one random episode of vomiting one night - he was sick just as he was falling asleep at bedtime, had a few hours of crying that night where he seemed to be in pain, was sick once more and then was absolutely fine after that. I put it down to something he’d eaten.
Wednesday just gone, he woke at 4am vomiting and has been being sick on and off since. The first 48 hours were extreme - 10-15 vomits through the night, but it is more spread out now but still ongoing. He’s just been sick in his sleep and this is day 6. Last time he was sick was about midday yesterday.
Certain it’s a bug again as he attended a party the week before and a few children now have it (as do I) but I guess I’m asking if it’s normal to vomit for 6/7 days each bug?
This week he’s been seen by his GP twice who said just to ride it out, a particularly nasty bug etc and they are only really concerned if he’s showing signs of dehydration which he’s not because he’s still breastfed and happy to feed a lot and drink water.
Any help/experiences greatly appreciated - I’m a bit worried about how long this is going on. He’s a little thing anyway so the weight loss hits him. Should mention he’s otherwise healthy and bar the first day or so is mostly himself when he has these bugs.
