Cut on sons penis

SecondtimeMama29 · 15/02/2023 18:58

I noticed tonight my son has a cut on his penis, at the top and around 1cm. It looked sore but he said it wasn't. He is only 4.

He said a girl at nursery caught it with a dinosaur today? Very odd... but I got the feeling he was just saying it so I stopped asking. I hadn't noticed it before but my parents bathed him last night. They said they didn't see it at the time.

Anyone had any experience with anything like this before I make a gp appointment? I've put some sudocrem on it.

My husband said he didn't see it this morning when he dressed him either. *

A proper cut? Or a scratch. Has he been anywhere else this may have happened? I'd be quite concerned as it's. It somewhere a child of his age would get a none accidental injury. Caught on a zip ?

maryofthevirginkind · 15/02/2023 19:01

Sorry that should say that is not somewhere he would get a none accidental injury.

I would ask him about it again later to be honest. 1cm isn't insignificant and you need to know how that injury happened. Sudocrem sounds like the right thing to use and yes a GP appt, more so its recorded with them and without you needing to take pics or anything, and to ensure there isn't any damage you need to worry about. How strange!

My husband said it's more of a scratch but seemed slightly deeper to me? He was wearing jogging bottoms today at nursery so can't imagine it would be a zip.

He did have jeans on yesterday and my mum had him in the afternoon and she said she said he had his pants and trousers on all day and only she took him to the bathroom and nothing happened.

It's very strange and I feel a bit strange even leaving this post but it's bothering me as I can't imagine how on earth that would happen. It doesn't look like he would of accidentally done it? He's only 4!

Are his nails sharp?

Not really but he caught me on the face earlier when he squeezed my face and they did feel sharp!

Hopefully he's done it himself. But it's always sensible to be alert about what could be going on at nursery.

Definitely. It's a very good nursery, brilliant staff and the best in the area so I don't think it could be anything untoward.

It's just very strange!

It looked like a scratchy/cut but could it be an infection or anything?!

I think children don't like to have a fiddle. Maybe he shoved something down his pants and scratched it? One of my daughters, at this age used to hide toys inside her tights and shoes when it was time to go to school because she thought she'd be able to sneak them in to school 😂

Yeah he definitely puts his hands down there - maybe he did it when he was sleeping. I'll keep an eye and take him to gp anyway! If I can get an appointment!

Did you check his fingernails, he may have inadvertently scratched himself

KangarooKenny · 16/02/2023 10:04

Make sure he is clean and dry down there. I get a ‘slice’ cut under my little toes in the summer when my feet are sweaty.

Mischance · 16/02/2023 10:06

Little boys (and big ones!) love to fiddle - the penis is conveniently situated just at hand level! It is most likely he has done it with his finger nail.

SecondtimeMama29 · 16/02/2023 11:02

Looks much better today! I think he's scratched himself by accident as it's much better today!!
