8 year old DD has had horrible tonsils since she was little. Always big, often huge, you can see the flap at the back coming up as it’s all so swollen when things are bad. She actually doesn’t often end up on antibiotics because it has almost become normal for her but she does complain of a sore throat.

doctor always says she’ll grow out of it, apart from one I spoke to during lockdown who was willing to book her in for their removal despite not seeing her in person.

this is her tonsils this morning, she’s had painkillers and is happy in herself now so not even sure if it’s worth going to the docs again with it.

thanks!

Ouch they look very sore.
Mine were like this. They’d get so big they blocked my throat and were dripping with pus 🤢 I had them out at 12. Only thing is, any throat infection in future goes further back/down the throat so can be worse. Still glad they’re gone though.

My sons tonsils look similar to this all the time. He is a noisy sleeper and breather. Once a nurse looked at them and said “oh my they are large aren’t they”. However when I subsequently saw the GP, as I was worried about how much they affect his breathing, he said they weren’t big and were fine, he’d grow in to them. Was very dismissive. So I was left unsure if they are something to be worried about or not! My son does get fairly regular throat/ear pain, but not so much that they would justify removing them. I think they’re very reluctant to remove tonsils now unless there’s a lot of issues with them.

thanks, appreciate the replies - it's so hard to know as mine are never anything like this and they look horrible to me!
