Is it just us suffering this badly? I’m starting to think my 1yo has got some underlying stuff going on. Hoping someone might be in the same boat for reassurance.

He was admitted with bad chest infection in October for a week. This never fully went despite antibiotics/steroids/inhalers I.e still had a cough for 2 months after. Then we were admitted in December for a week, chest infection. This turned into a bad case of pneumonia (ended up in HDU for a week in January - 2 weeks hospital total). He is still in recovery from this.

Since then we have had 3 bouts of bacterial tonsillitis (so much puss on his tonsils) in the last 6 weeks alone (+ 1 tonsillitis in November). 3 ear infections alongside. Conjunctivitis. Chest infections on top of pneumonia/potentially exacerbated by this. To top it off he is now allergic to penicillin after an awful reaction.

In 4 months he has had 8 lots of antibiotics, 5 rounds of steroids, inhalers, oxygen support, HDU support etc. He has had 0 days of not being unwell since October. He isn’t getting better between illnesses whatsoever. He is constantly grey/pale and more often than not super miserable which is horrid as he’s such a happy bab.

Should I be pressing this further? I am aware this winter is bad for virus’ but he was a winter baby, he has been exposed to germs frequently with older brothers at nursery/school/days out etc. Feel so sorry for the poor guy.

Poor little thing 😞 does he go to nursery OP? Do you work? I find once they get knocked down by a few illnesses in a row, it’s hard to get back up again, because they’re quite weak and lose weight so the next illness can really get its claws in. He needs a break from contact with other kids if possible but I know it isn’t a lot of the time 😟

No he doesn’t go to nursery, I work but 2 days a week and I’m currently a secretary for a priv consultant (I work from home/at hers) so not like I see many people at all! We’ve limited his contact with most other people other than immediate family (us and my parents who both work from home permanently) and occasionally my Nan essentially since October because he’s been so unwell. Feel so sad as it can’t be good for his development ☹️

I would suggest giving Health Kinesiology a go.

hk-uk.co.uk/

Can be done remotely.

Sending love to your little one

Hello I'm having the same problem with my 16 month old always being ill. He's been getting ear, throat , chest infections every month since November. The doctor have agreed to do a full blood test to check for any underlying problem. I'm so worried about it. Is your little one better now?

Ash09876 · 05/06/2023 23:28

Also like to add my little one doesn't go nursery either.

How is your son doing now, OP?

Sorry to hear about your 1 year old being so poorly! My now 2 year old is still getting ill regularly normally every 6 weeks it will be something else. I did push for him to have blood tests but they all came back normal. Which is an amazing. I said to the doctors these repeat infections need to be looked into . They went through his notes and realized it was becoming more regular so ordered a full blood test. I do believe mine might be one of them unlucky ones that pick up everything and I'm hoping , he will grow out of it. But if you aren't happy and feel it's not right, you must try to push. I feel relieved and reassured now everything came back clear They did check him for serious diseases as well. X

I’m so glad it was nothing serious! Although I’m sorry he’s still getting ill frequently. My boy is getting ill every 1-2 weeks at the moment so I hope it gradually decreases 🫠 feel like he might be about to start his fourth course of antibiotics in three months…

Hi guys, just seen this thread pop up. It actually took him nearly 5 months to recover fully from his pneumonia and has been left with a weaker right lung but after that he’s been generally right as rain other than a couple more throat infections I’m pleased to say. It was a really scary time and I’m still a bit traumatised from it! When they’re so little it’s so so tough. Sending love to anyone in the winter bug trenches at the moment xxx
