AAC Devices For Autism

Hi,

My son is 3.5 and is completely non verbal.

We're wondering if an AAC device might help him to communicate in the absence of speech.

I don't know much about these devices, does anybody have any experience of how they work?

What sort of cost would such a device cost, and is there any funding available for autistic children.

I will do my own research online, but hope somebody has a real life experience.

Hi OP, I follow a dad on Facebook who has 2 non verbal sons. 1 of them uses an app called proloquo2go. It’s helped his son hugely to communicate his needs. He’s on Facebook and instagram his page is storiesaboutautism hope this helps

He should get some form of access to AAC including tech AAC via his NHS SALT - is he currently on their caseload?

As usual, there are likely to be hideous waits but they could at least advise you.
