Cough - how long is too long?

DD6 has had a chesty cough for 3 weeks now. No temp or other symptoms and fine in herself. It sounds wet and deep but doesn’t hurt her. it’s worse in morning and after running around. I have major health anxiety and tend to rush to the dr and am trying hard to not do that.
is it normal for a cough to last this long or would you take her to get chest listened to?

thanks for keeping me sane fellow mamas!

I'd take her to the doctors. I wouldn't be massively worried but it doesn't hurt to get it checked out if it's not going away.

Get her checked over.

She may need an inhaler.
My child has one due to a wheeze on his chest. Nothing to worry about but it helps massively.

Thank you both so much. Lying here googling it and panicking! I think I’ll get them to listen to her chest just to rule any proper infection out. 💞

Sounds like it could be asthma, and they might want to trial some inhalers. I'd book an appt at the GP.

@wobblymum1 how did you get on? I've been going back through posts before posting myself because I'm in the same situation with DS. I could have written your post word for word!

carriedout · 10/03/2023 20:43

I was going to say three weeks!

wobblymum1 · 10/03/2023 21:21

well! its finally gone 😅
to be replaced by a new cold/cough
But it stopped after 4 weeks. We ended up getting a chest X-ray as her temp rocketed one day so I was (more)worried
so a&e did a chest X-ray but said just viral and about a week later it stopped. Hope your little one feels better soon - they said 5 weeks Isn’t unusual for coughs this time of year 🤦‍♀️
