This is really random, past couple of days my baby’s head smells really sweet. So strange no idea what it could be. Anyone else have the same with their baby? Thought maybe his shampoo but it doesn’t smell the same and smells really strong on his forehead

Is it a pleasant smell? If you are concerned, ask your health visitor, or get someone else to confirm that they can smell it too.

There is a Maple syrup syndrome but usually their urine rather then head

How are they in person?

I would call 111 or pop and see a chemist as it is the weekend so no gp till Monday

If nothing else to put your mind at rest

Smell his breath. Pear drop smell is a sign of diabetes

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2023 14:53

I'm inclined to think that it could be normal baby smell enhanced by the maternal 'hormones'. I think 'your' baby is meant to smell unique to you.

If it doesn't smell pleasant, or if it smells not milky - i.e. vinegary or pear drops-, then get it checked.
Mention it anyway, as someone else will not have the mother-baby bond affecting their nose.

**sorry, my words seem clumsy.

Thanks for your replies, I think it may just be me as did what the the PP has said and the other person couldn’t smell it. How bizarre.
he is well in himself been a bit off feeding the past couple of days but nothing else

Mine also smelt like that. Doesn't anymore

hennylovespens · 28/01/2023 15:57

I thought babies did smell sweet and sort of heavenly. That new baby smell? Obviously don't listen to me, and talk to the professionals as planned, but as odd as it may sound I know a few people who love that baby smell.

Glitterstars · 28/01/2023 17:43

It isn’t like a new baby smell I think that has gone he is 3 months it’s just really sweet but would appear that it’s just me ha

But gross but I breast fed mine and I think it was also like sweet sweat from being close to me.

mackthepony · 29/01/2023 01:14

I do remember DS smelling like apples at one point

If they're sick they smell like raw chicken
