I have a 5 year old child who needs a small filling on their tooth.
They aren't very keen on medical things, so we have been working really hard on getting them used to dentists, role play etc, and managed to get them to an appointment.
They let the dentist look with the mirror and the little scraper thing but then the dentist started to mention about fillings and explained that it might taste a tiny bit funny, and that was it-refused to lie back or open their mouth😩
So they have been referred on to the hospital for gas and air and to have any procedures done there.
My questions are:
-
I have seen on Amazon dentist tooth cleaning tools. But I can't seem to find the brush they use, I feel if we could practise with all the tools at home first that might help. I might just get an electric toothbrush, but does anyone know if I could get the same brush as the dentists use for role play? I realise that it might not be the exact same as the one they had seemed to be plugged in. But just something very similar.
-
what will the gas and air entail? Is it in a mask? Or like with I had in labour, that I put in my mouth? Just so I can prepare my child with something similar it might help.
-
any other advice that might make things go smoothly?
-
any idea how long roughly the waiting list for Grampian (in Scotland) waiting lists for dentistry is?
Thank you for any help.
