HFM- bad ulcers. What can I do?

My 18m has HFM, hardly any spots on body but her mouth is full. She's still breastfeeding (a lot!) but at the moment she can't because her mouth is so sore :(

She is screaming and crying. I've done the paracetamol and ibuprofen. Using anbesol to try numb.

I just don't know what else to do? She's laying on me in absolute tears 😭 I feel helpless.

Oh bless her! Might bonjela teething gel (for numbness) or something similar work? Otherwise best contacting GP if she's not getting fluids in

Poor thing!

Anything that affects fluid intake severely merits a trip to the GP today especially with young kids.

Waiting for GP to call back- called this morning... maybe I'll call to see when I'll be expecting it.

She's had anbesol which is like bonjela. Her whole tongue is covered :(

@smoosandsmed how did you get on today? I hope the GP was able to do something.

Newuser82 · 26/01/2023 19:56

Difflam spray is the way to go. You ask for it at the pharmacist.

BryceQuinlan · 26/01/2023 19:56

The liquid version of anbesol better than gel.

The GP sent us to a&e in the end from the lack of wet nappies etc!

Got given some spray there. They said if she still didn't feed then she'd need a NG tube, but thank god she fed after the spray!

They sent us home with it and she's still very sad but is drinking more.

God, this is an awful virus!!

My little one was eating yoghurt, cold custard and melted ice cream for 2 days with HFM 😎 she could not breastfeed nor tolerated any fruits I assume tongue was very sore with ulcers 😭
