Talk to me about croup please

My 18mo has croup. It started Tuesday evening. We've been back and forth to the hospital in the last 24 hours as she's had stridor breathing. Had to call an ambulance too. She's had steroids and nebulisers.

Any tips for now we're back at home? The whole thing has terrified me as obviously the sound of stridor breathing is awful. Thank you

Run a hot shower or bath and sit her in the steamy bathroom. It'll help. If you can't do that, hot water in a bowl for to breathe in the steam from that.

I was always told to sit in a steamed up bathroom with them.

Cold air is one of the best things for croup

Sit then up
Stay as normal and chatty and calming as you can
Take them outside for fresh air - cold air helps
See if you can get some dexamethasone on prescription from the GP. It works wonders on croup, give her a spoonful when it starts and she’ll be back to herself within an hour or two.
It looks and sounds scarier than it is in most cases.
