DD sore tummy

Hello mumnetters hope your all good! Hoping to get some advice. My DD9 has had a sore tummy for a few days now. She had stomach flu which started NYE, vomiting and diarrhoea for 6 days intermittently. Since then her appetites not the same however she's been getting really sore tummies. It's not all the time but it is mostly there. I've been given her the usual calpol and nurofeon but it's not helping I gave her it at 8ish and she's still in pain. I spoke to the doctor today who was lovely but basically said this stomach flu going around is taking a couple weeks to clear up. He does want a poop sample but other than that can't do anything else as she has no other symptoms. I am recovering from the same thing (day 6) and it's horrific and I still get a pain even after a drink of water. Do you think there's anything else I can give her or do? She said the pains all over her tummy and pointed right up to under her chest and said even in her back a bit. It made me suspect maybe urine/kidney infection? I do think she also has a touch of IBS or intolerances cause she does get a lot of sore tummies and we cut out certain foods and then she's fine. She was due back at school Monday and has missed it then there were strikes today but I really don't want to send her if she will be im pain all day at school. Do you think I'd be okay to give her buscopan to see if this helps? Sorry for the long post just a bit lost to be honest. Thank you

Hi OP - I hope you and your DD are feeling better! I would mention giving zinc a try - it's great for rebuilding tummy health after a bug. My DC are coeliac and I was advised by the paediatrician and my kinesiologist that zinc is important to gut health, and it wouldn't hurt to start on a probiotic yoghurt too. All the best :)

Hi @Jaybird43 thank you for the suggestion I will give anything a try. How did you find out your DC has coeliac? I suspect my DD maybe have something wrong in that field. She's been like this on and off for a year xxx

I had to insist on a blood test with the GP - the GP was convinced my DD was making it up and, exasperatedly asked me during the 8th appointment "what do you want me to do?" and I just said "a blood test". Up until that point, after 13 months of DD being poorly, the GP was adamant all of DD's issues were psychological or made up. It makes my blood boil as DD was only 5 years old at the time and the GP was calling her a liar. As soon as the results came in and that DD was coeliac, the GP actually phoned me up and apologised. I am still angry about it now as something so simple as a blood test could've halted 13 months of pain for DD.

I would definitely ask your GP just to rule it out. My niece had bad tummy aches for months (she lived in a different country) and she was given an ultrasound which revealed swollen lymph nodes in her tummy (if i remember correctly) and that got better in time.

There are so many causes for tummy aches but I would definitely ask your GP to be proactive and do a blood test, just so you can cross some things off the list. With the coeliac screen, she will need to continue with gluten until she's had the blood test though because otherwise you will get an inaccurate result

@Jaybird43 thank you for getting back to me. I will definitely get back in touch with the GP. I have suspected it for a while now xxx

@Cece92 - I hope this NY was better than the last for you! Unfortunately for us, we are suffering something similar to you this year. How did it work out with your DD? I’ve managed to get an appt with our GP for my DD today but not sure what to expect and just wondered if there was more to the story with your DD?

Hello 😊 so the doctors said that the gastro sickness bug we both had can take weeks to go. We both had stomach pains for weeks after it as did my my sister however, she does have IBS and she actually had anxiety which was making her stomach bad. This was due to being bullied at school and she had kept it to herself. Since it's been sorted she's been okay the odd IBS flare up so we avoid certain foods. I hope you get answers xxx
