Can anybody help? Blood glucose result

My 3 year old has had extreme thirst over the past week and always hungry (very unlike him) so after a little Googling symptoms- diabetes seemed to pop up. Have just bought a blood glucose monitor to put my worries at rest and can't seem to figure out if normal or not 😭🫣 can someone please help?

The test was done 2h after eating his tea.

Result 7.6

Been trying to find out if normal or not but I've managed to confuse myself 😭

If your child seems unwell get medical advice, but honestly, put the glucometer down. You'll drive yourself mad

That’s a perfectly normal blood sugar reading after eating. But that can’t tell you if there’s any underlying cause, if you have serious concerns see your GP. And like the other poster said, but the monitor down it will drive you mad

You may be googling the figures for fasting blood glucose and getting mixed up.
Under 7.8 for 2 hours post prandial is what I found and is ok.
Just keep an eye in him.

Thanks both. Will keep an eye on him over the weekend! 😃
It's just that he's all of a sudden started drinking sooooo much and using the toilet every hour that raised alarm bells.

To find out if he has diabetes you really need to see a GP and get a HBA1C blood test. This will look at his blood sugar readings from the past few months. You can't diagnose from one post-meal reading.

LIZS · 06/01/2023 19:14

You need to do a fasting one , before breakfast.

Cuppasoupmonster · 06/01/2023 19:17

It would be type 1 (I have it) and the reading would be much higher than 7.6.

When I was diagnosed I hadn’t eaten and it was 15. After eating it was in the 20s.

However I would do a follow up blood test in a couple of weeks to make sure.

Have diabetic family member - that's normal but if they are pale, lethargic, have stomach pain &/or nausea, have lost weight, seek help quickly, diabetes can get serious v quickly.
Our t1d also always drank & peed a lot

A nappy which us wet straight after nappy changes, bottles of water being drank quicklty with a constant need for refills, dramatic weight loss and unquenchable thirst, vomiting and dehydration are all signs of T1D in young babies......(diabetic ketoacidosis) can lead to coma)).

Keep a very close eye on the symptoms and be ready to get your child to A&E, GP or urgent care centre for blood tests if any of these symptoms happen.

I have been T1D since childhood.
