I'm waiting on 111 to call back but does anyone have any idea what this rash is? No temperature or other symptoms. Thanks

Did they have a hot water bottle on lap?

newyearsamesh1t · 05/01/2023 22:10

Yeah she did, I thought that but should it have gone in an hour ?

Goodness me that looks….odd.

I also would have thought a hot water bottle heat mark would have gone after an an hour

NameOchangeO1 · 05/01/2023 22:21

It's from the hot water bottle and it will go away by itself. Those marks are typically caused by direct heat exposure.

Is it just on her legs?

It looks sort of looks like when my ds had slapped cheek. No symptoms apart from the rash on his legs.

Yes HWB that was far too hot. Was it in a cover?

mynameischloe · 05/01/2023 22:29

I get these exact marks from a hot water bottle too.

DoubleYolker · 05/01/2023 22:34

Yep, rash from direct heat. “Erythema ab igne” in medical speak. Maybe a bit cooler or wrapped in a towel/cover next time she uses it.

lifeinthehills · 05/01/2023 22:36

First thing I thought, before reading the other responses, was heat.

Yep was in a cover and it's no hotter than the last few nights

I remember, as a child, sitting too close to the fire and having what my mother described as "corned beef legs" which looked like that.

Yep, it's inside a teddy bear

Last few nights - there's your answer. Repeated exposure would increase the risk of the rash.

newyearsamesh1t · 05/01/2023 22:47

Really? I always had one and never had any problems, how bizarre. Been freezing last few nights, will have to look at alternatives. Thank you

Corn beef legs from too much heat... back in the 70's when we only had a had a gas fire and hot water bottles this look was common. We used to rotate in front of the gas fire like a kebab to get an even heat.

OdeToBarney · 05/01/2023 23:03

I've had this from sitting the the sun in jeans. I was a bit 😳 but it went down in a couple of hours.

Sounds like fun!! I'm surprised I haven't heard of this or experienced it before! Strange Smile

Quick update, dr called (very quickly, I am very impressed) he said it is most likely from having the hot water bottle on the same bits of skin for a while (she was asleep with it for 2 hours).

Thank you for stopping me panicking everyone! Now I will move the bottle when she falls asleep to stop it happening again x
