My DS has been diagnosed with strep A today. He’s so snotty, constantly coughing and crying most of the day because of his sore throat I’m assuming. His throat is red raw. Hes struggling to drink his milk due to the blocked nose and is only really having a full feed if he is sleepy, otherwise only taking 3-4oz of a 7oz bottle during the day. He’s barely napping because he’s counting himself awake. Doctor says there’s nothing I can do to help him other than the antibiotics which we have started today but it’s so horrible seeing him like this. Any ideas?
So far we have done:

  • vicks
  • olbas oil
  • calpol for the pain
  • steamy shower
  • saline nasal drops
  • calpol plug in
any ideas would be welcome I’m so sad seeing him like this he hasn’t smiled all day

Can he have ibuprofen? Ibuprofen will help more with the throat inflammation than calpol and gives longer lasting pain relief too. Would he enjoy sucking on a cold flannel? Wet it and put it in the fridge for a while to get really cold.
