I am seeking medical advice tomorrow but I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this.
On Thursday, DD (3.6) woke up with temp of 38 & sore throat. Took her to Docs due to Strep A concern. Doctor wasn't sure if DD had tonsillitis but given they were shutting for Xmas gave me penicillin in tablet form to start giving DD as a precaution. DD was ok that day, eating as normal.
The next day her temp reached 39.9 at worst, miserable etc. She was sick first thing & in the afternoon which we think was related to the fever. Took her to docs. DD complaining of tummy ache so Penicillin changed to amoxicillin.
Next day DD seemed better although still with temp which was sitting around 37.8 with medication. Eating a bit more. Happy enough.
Yesterday she developed a nasty cough & again had a temp. Pretty miserable unless given Neurofen.
Today temp controlled just with Calpol (I usually find Calpol does nothing to lower temps) Temp has been sitting at around 38 today but DD happy enough except for this cough which is horrendous, coughing so hard it sounds like she will be sick. Not eating a lot, except biscuits but has had a nice day with family. However started complaining of tummy ache again.
Just checked her temp & it's increased slightly to 38.4. I am exhausted & could cry. I just don't understand why on day 5 the temp has now, albeit slightly, increased. OH wants to stop the AB's as he had flu last week & thinks this is what DD is actually battling (she had the flu nasal spray but fought it hard so not sure how successful it was) he thinks the AB's could be unsettling her tummy, which is obvs a standard side effect of them. His argument is if it were bacterial, her temps would have gone by now.
I am hesitating to stop ABs due to AB resistance.
I suppose after my waffle I just wondered if anyone else's child has ever had a temp go on this long which has gone up & down?
Thanks if you read this far.
