Hi all, my little girl who is almost 5 months hasn’t pooped in 4 nearly 5 days! I’ve tried everything, watered down prune purée, cool boiled water, massages, baths, laying on her tummy, bicycle legs etc, she’s been on formula and breast fed, and usually poops once or twice a day, her farts smell vile and she screams when she farts and her stomach is hard, I feel so bad but I don’t know what to do?! She also has been prescribed lactulose and has been taking it each night but it’s not doing a thing :-(

Try a spoonful of fresh orange juice x

Does she have food normally? I would just go back to milk for now, especially push breast milk.

When did she last see the GP?

Or...and I know it sounds a bit yuck...gently massage her bum hole with a wet wipe. This can sometimes encourage a poo x

She has a purée mixed with breast milk once a week and baby rice once a week, HV said it’s okay for her to do so, I’m only able to breast feed off of one side as I’ve had surgery on the other, and have been pushing it! I’ve let her suck on an orange also, she saw the GP about a week ago now who said to continue with the lactulose, as she get like this once a month but never this bad!! I can’t go to GP at all next week as am away at her great granny’s

I'd ring the GP again. In the mean time a warm bath and after the bath give baby a massage. You can look up the techniques online to massage safely.

HV aren’t qualified to advise early weaning. Certainly not weaning at 4 months.

You need to ring 111 and get an appointment with a GP.
