My LO has been really unwell with what we assume is flu. He ended up having blood tests due to persistent vomiting and very high temps. Blood tests showed an significantly elevated white blood count but only moderate elevated CRP so bacterial infection diagnosis wasn't cut and dry and other blood tests weren't significant. He had a stomach ultrasound due to stomach ache and chest x Ray due to cough. We were then given 5 days amoxicillin due to something that showed on the x Ray although it wasn't significant and chest sounded clear.
My son had been so unwell and we were so worried but antibiotics seemed to really help although fevers didn't subside straight away.

He has been off of antibiotics just 1.5 days now and is now complaining of a headache and his temp is slightly raised again. I am so fed up. And so is he, his mood is really effected. Thing is, his cough is hardly there now so I can't imagine it's still a chest infection?

Anyone any stories like this? I will of course be contacting GP as soon as I can. I don't things are bad enough today and can't imagine it's easy to get through to 111

Hope someone can give some reassurance. He hasn't seen anyone to catch anything new, none of us have, I'm so worried and depressed about it all x

Sorry to hear you son is unwell.

There is honestly so much going round at the moment, my child's also ill, all my friends and family's kids are ill.

Does Calpol/nurofen bring his temp down?

How old is he? Is he at nursery?

Yeah same here. No advice really but it's so stressful. Docs didn't seem too bothered today and said he had impetigo, but it doesn't really add up. He's barely eaten or moved in 10 days, massive weight loss, constant headache and now throwing up. Better hope he perks up given the strike is back on in 2 days.

@Cherryblossoms85 sorry you're going through it too. My son had very similar symptoms and I'm sure it was the flu. He is 8 and it's knocked him for six. He's still asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow and that's so unlike him. Big weight loss here too 😓 we're 2 weeks in, and 1 course of antibiotics down at this point.
My anxiety is awful, and i already have PTSD from the medical world / hospital care.

@fedupsweetpea yeah I guess a big part of it is my own memories of the awful baby period and docs talking basically bollocks about him having major problems when he didn't have any. Means when they say he's fine, I now also don't believe them! I just feel so sad for him spending Christmas asleep on the sofa.

@Cherryblossoms85 yeah it's so cruel. Christmas is magical for kids and we hardly get any. When it's crap it really cuts deep doesn't it. Lots of people talking about this virus from hell though. My husband also had it and said it's the worst he's felt in his entire adult life. I believe its 'proper' flu and that accounts for how hard it's hitting these poor kids. X
