Shadow on Toddlers Lung

Hi,

My 18 month old had breathing difficulties at birth and then at 7 weeks old she was hospitalised for a week due to RSV/Bronchiolitis and then caught a secondary chest infection, whilst she was in hospital she had an x-ray which showed a mark on her right lung. Since then she has always got a bad cough, wet sounding and she sounds rattly whenever she breathes. She suffers alot with chest infections so in the past year and a half she has had 10 doses of antibiotics to treat them.

The doctors have given her a blue inhaler which does nothing, they prescribed reflux medication which did nothing and now they have carried out two further x-rays which confirms she has a shadow on her right lung. We are now waiting for an appointment with a consultant.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar thing with their children and what the diagnosis of a shadow on the lung was? I have searched on here for similar things but i could only find posts regarding adults.

Thank you in advance!

DS's was an abscess, it was seen after a bout of pneumonia when he was about 5 or 6, he was a chronic asthmatic at the time and very prone to chest infections. I hope you get good news soon.

Im sorry I don’t have any input, other than to say sometimes a shadow can just be a shadow. But until anything is confirmed, all you can do is follow the process. However, trust your gut and advocate for your daughter accordingly.

I hope you get seen soon.
