Lump on head?

Hi guys! First time ever posting after using Mumsnet for my pregnancy to look up sooo many questions!
So..
My little one is nearly 6 weeks and I've noticed the shape of his head is odd.
On his right just back from the forehead, above the ear side, he has a lump, it's smooth, hard as bone and feels like the shape of his skull rather than anything growing on it or scalp based.
But it isn't as protruding on the other side.
It's making me worry so much!
(Pictures attached)

He does have a preference to laying his head on this side and we predominantly hold him on our left, but the 'bulge' is further forward than where his head would rest.

I'll be asking our health visitor, but I don't want to look a hyperventilator if it's normal and you all have had similar.

P.s no other signs of anything untoward, he's a little milk piggy, happy baby. 😊

Also this is the back of his head, not sure if he has a bit of flat head on the same side as the front bulge. 🤔
P.s I'm a first timer to all this Mum stuff, be gentle with me. 🥺💗

I don't think it's anything to worry about OP, we all have lumps and bumps on our heads...very rarely is a skull a perfect circle or whatever😉 I recall being quite worried about a bump on my sons head when he was a young baby, but it's all part of his skull.

Ask the health visitor or midwife to check things over but try not to worry. You say its hard and bony so sounds OK.

There will be a nice head of hair covering any bumps soon anyway!

Hey lovely.
To be honest looking from the pictures I wouldn't be overly concerned. Babies skulls take months to form properly after birth and can be all sorts of lumps bumps that are more noticeable due to lack of hair etc. However, I am no professional so you're doing the right thing in seeking advice from the HV.
My 3rd DS had a perfectly round head, whereas my middle DS had small bumps that I either felt or noticed which the evened out as he got older and his skull formed properly. 😊 I can fully understand why you're worried, because I was and would be too if you're not 100% sure. Have you both had your 6 week check up? May be worth asking then too if you don't speak to HV before xx

Thank you so much for your replies, that has put my mind at ease a lot. 😮‍💨💙
My 6 week HV is delayed due to Christmas, so they are seeing me on the 28th.
I'll be getting them to give him a little look over.
Then 9th of Jan I have his 8 week GP appointment.
It's beautiful, but bloody terrifying having a newborn!
So many worries and questions!

Thank you again. X

He is perfect what a cutie pie!!!!

I got stressed about this and convinced myself my eldest had a tumour
Their heads change so much the first few years of their life

If he is happy and healthy in himself wait until 28th to show your HV

If he is poorly and you're worried go and see the doctor

He looks perfect to me (mum of 3, not medical)

He is super cute OP! Have a lovely Christmas Xmas Smile
