WWYD

My daughter woke up this morning feeling awful (she wasn't great yesterday, had a slight temp and a couple of doses of Calpol yesterday)
Her temp this morning was 40.3.

Immediately gave her Calpol, then as temp stil 39.7 45 mins later nurofen.

She's had Calpol and nurofen at evenly spaced intervals all day, so had 3 calpols and 3 nurofens since 8am leaving me with 1 more dose of calpol to give during the night so had the Max dose of both meds.

Her temp has not dropped below 38.5

She has a very sore throat/ voice but nothing visible on tonsils etc.

No rash or strawberry tongue or similar.

Feels hot to.touch and has been shivery and shaking

If temp is still high on the morning should I try for a Dr appt or wait a bit more?

She is clearly unwell but not flopped on sofa or looking extremely ill and she ate a small amount of pizza and some choc biscuits

I have the exact same with my 9 year old right now, currently sat here just looking at them sleep as I’m worried. Think I’m going to call GP first thing, my friends little one had scarlet fever last week and they didn’t get the rash of strawberry tongue until a couple of days after the temp started.

Have you done a covid test? That was how I started with covid two weeks ago.

changedmynam · 19/12/2022 11:19

We've done a covid test - negative.

Woke over 40 again this morning.
Had calpol now 39

Called drs... No appts but waiting for a Dr to call back as a phone triage.

She's still definitely not well at all ... Like half the world so it seems ...

One of my kids was like this last week. We were given antibiotics for possible strep.

shortandpaleandoldandugly · 19/12/2022 11:46

You need to get to the GP asap. My dd had this and got straight to the docs and started on antibiotics before the strep test came back. The test confirmed positive. Don't wait until your child is really poorly.

We went to drs.

Came away with antibiotics as Dr suspected strep A.

We were lucky to get the last bottle of antibiotics that the pharmacy next to our surgery had. The others in the area were all out of stock.

Her temp is currently over 40 again and has been for an hour.

Hope all the other children feel better soon too
