Can anyone identify this rash?

He has a sore throat but is otherwise well.
any ideas whilst I wait for a diagnosis?

Impetigo?

Impetigo was my thought too. Is it sore? Itchy?

Maybe - it doesn't itch though and doesn't blanch

Hand foot and mouth? X

Inside his mouth is fine and no rash anywhere else on his body

The four larger spots on the right hand side are beauty spots/ moles

Are they blisters on his lip?

No just chapped/ dry

Impetigo which can be caused by strep A which is going around. Will need to see GP. Very contagious

Impetigo seems to be the consensus, I'll let you know how it looks tomorrow

Got a call back from out of hours at 5:10 this morning that I missed, message said to see gp but the rash has mostly gone this morning

Is it like a dark circle around his mouth?

It was, this morning it's just at the sides under his mouth

My child has scarlet fever and he had a few spots like this around his mouth. Also the sandpaper rash on his chest and back.

Look at his tonsils for white spots, red tongue.

No rashes anywhere's else, tongue normal and tonsils look ok, I'll see what happens as the day goes on

So even though the first question I asked him was 'did you do it with a glass?' and the answer was no, it turns out that's exactly what happened
