Last week my DS was poorly with a really nasty ear infection. He was given amoxicillin for 7 days and a swab was taken. He is loads better in himself - I have very occasionally noticed him touching his ear, but nothing like before and he's not upset or anything. He had his last dose this morning, having been on three doses a day.
This afternoon I get a call from the GP to say swab results have come back. Amoxicillin was fine, but should have been a ten day course so they are prescribing an extra three days. Unfortunately by the time the GP had signed to prescription it was 3pm and all the amoxicillin was gone from our local pharmacies. Several pharmacies have said they are expecting a delivery 10am tomorrow, so I'm feeling reasonably hopeful that we should get some then. But by then it will be 24 hours since the last dose. Is is a big problem to have a 24 hour gap 7 days into a 10 day course of antibiotics? Is it likely the infection will come back? He was so sad and poorly for what felt like ages before the ear infection was diagnosed, I really don't want him going downhill again.
