My 12 year old dd has had earache for about 5 days now we have tried olive oil but it hasnt helped. That was the advice of the pharmacy.

I messaged the gp today but got a text back saying they wouldnt see her and to get drops from a pharmacy.

Does anyone have any ideas which drops are good for earache ?

thanks!

There is earcalm but that's usually for outer ear infection. Anything else is just olive oil or sodium bicarbonate. These are not designed for ear ache. Those have to be prescribed

we have tried olive oil its pretty difficult to get it in her ear she screams when you touch it.
The gp was pretty clear they wouldnt see her so i have no idea what to do now!

DS had an earache about a month ago. GP fobbed him off. Calpol was good enough apparently. But it wasn’t at all good enough and he was in excruciating pain. School rang me to come in and collect him. I paid to see a private GP who looked in his ears (our GP wouldn’t even offer a phone consultation!), said there was a roaring infection (no surprises there!), and prescribed him the appropriate antibiotic ear drops (and had them on hand so I didn’t have to go to Boots). I paid a tenner for them on top of the £60 fee to the private GP (West London, so everything is expensive!) but within a couple of hours, all pain subsided and didn’t return. We finished the week long course. Best £70 I’d spent. Our local NHS GP is useless since Covid. You may end up paying, OP. But it’s worth it. My eardrum burst when an ear infection went rogue. It happens more quickly than you’d imagine.

There are online pharmacy's or even 111 that can do a referal to a local chemist. It does sound like ear drops on prescription are required.

In the mean time Hot flannel on the ear may help

Olive oil just make her

Olive oil is only useful to soften earwax. If the pain isn’t caused by earwax which it most likely isn’t it won’t be of any use.
