Baby has pneumonia

My baby has been hospitalised with pneumonia. We are abroad so I’m having trouble with understanding the information I am being given (only one doctor speaks English and it’s hard to grasp what she is saying). I do know that DD will be in hospital for at least 5 days and there was a mention of CMV. She’s on antibiotics. Can anyone give me some reassurance that she will be fine? Could she still take a turn for the worse?

How old is she?

My DS had double pneumonia on top of RSV as a baby and he was poorly but once antibiotics kicked in, he perked right up. As soon as his oxygen levels were above 95% and his fever controlled, he came home. He was in for 5 days.

Which country are you in? Is there anyone who can help you with speaking to a doctor to get a translation of exactly what they are doing?
Sorry OP, That's such a horrible situation to be in and I hope your daughter gets well soon💝

Translation apps can also translate speech to text. We use them for our Ukrainian students at school.

She’s 6 months old. Her oxygen levels are around 95% but sometimes dropping so I guess it needs to stabilise first.
My husband could translate but he’s looking after my other child (there’s nobody at all to watch my son so husband can’t come to hospital) and I just can’t seem to get a straight answer when I call him and ask him to speak with someone.

She's in the best place. And she's receiving medicine! You can take comfort from that.

My middle DS was born with collapsed lung and pneumonia. Antibitoics and due to the collapsed lung needed to be ventilated for a good few days from 1 hour old - he's now a cheeky thriving 7 year old.

I hope she gets better soon. I know how worrying it can be. They're stronger than you realise Xx

Thank you to you all for replying. She’s had a good night, saturatution levels above 95% and no temperature so I’m really hoping we will be able to leave soon :)
