Best supplements to prevent/fight strep and boost immune system

Sorry if everyone is sick of seeing/hearing/reading about GAS. I wanted to offer an alternative thread for people to post ways to potentially prevent children getting poorly.

I must admit that I’m very anxious about it and the way I’m attempting to deal with it is to be proactive. It allows me to feel like I have a small element of control. I understand that none of the supplements etc may have any bearing on a child’s likelihood of getting ill, but for my own mental health, it’s worth a shot.

Besides the obvious (prioritising sleep, reducing sugar, reducing stress), does anyone have any supplements/foods that they swear by?

According to Medical Medium, foods that kill or prevent strep are:
Celery Juice
Bananas
Berries

Spinach
Onion

garlic

cayenne pepper

ginger

turmeric

raw honey

oregano

thyme.

I personally give my children Sambucol, vitamin D, a probiotic and use fluoride free toothpaste.

When DS used to get monthly bacterial tonsillitis (so, strep), the probiotics and the fluoride free toothpaste stopped it.

Anyone else?

  • sleep
  • exercise (at least one hour, preferably outside)
  • nutrition

that's all you can do. our bodies do the rest.

unless a child has an extremely limited diet no supplements are needed. apart from vit d3 which everyone should take in the winter months.

floride toothpaste is important to protect teeth unless you are in an area that supplements drinking water.

We were, up until recently. My son has fluoridosis (sp?) from too much fluoride in water and toothpaste. The amount of children I’ve taught with the little white flecks on their teeth from too much fluoride is crazy!

*Dental fluorosis is what it’s called.

A healthy diet with not too much sugar can help keep the immune system strong.
5 a day of fruit and veg provides a good base.
Vitamin d
Soups
For generally trying to avoid illness - wash hands often and gargle with salty water if you can.
