Has he been seen by a doctor?

trevthecat · 04/12/2022 09:49

Scarlet fever rash is like sand paper, does it feel rough? My sons rash lasted about a week but was only rough a couple of days

Remmy123 · 04/12/2022 09:49

No the rash started yesterday - before that he had a fever

I've got penacillin that he has just started due to a tooth absess so he is on antibiotics

@trevthecat to be honest it doesn't feel rough

he was playing footie and running around the garden yesterday

maybe it's a post viral rash

I think you need to seek medical advice as not all antibiotics are the same. You will need specific ones for scarlet fever. Without these your son could be contagious for several weeks.

KER90 · 04/12/2022 09:51

It could be an allergic reaction to the antibiotics, happened to my DS.

Could it be an allergic reaction to the penicillin?

Numbat2022 · 04/12/2022 09:53

When did he start the penicillin? It could be a reaction to that.

Also, you use different antibiotics for different things, so he might need something else.

IAmTi · 04/12/2022 09:53

Speak to dr/111

HermioneWeasley · 04/12/2022 09:53

Scarlet fever rash is v distinctive - it looks like little tiny red pin pricks.

NashvilleQueen · 04/12/2022 09:56

Has he had ABs before? The rash does sound like a reaction to penicillin. I'd call 111 as I think they'll advise you to stop giving it to him.

elevenplusdilemma · 04/12/2022 10:01

Scarlett fever rash is rough and the tongue usually goes bright red like a strawberry.

Rash could well be an allergy to the penicillin though. See a Dr today as he'll need to start on different antibiotics if it is that.

Remmy123 · 04/12/2022 10:10

Thanks - he was on penicillin for one day last week as one emergency debtist tgohght it was an absess then his normal dentist said it's not an absess so we stopped it so sure it can't be a reaction.

amoxicillian apparently does treat a fever but I'll call 111

it is like loads on pin pricks all over him it started on torso now on his face

Amoxicillin doesn't 'treat a fever' . It needs to be a targeted antibiotic for the correct cause. Am really surprised you were told to stop antibiotics after starting a course.

Call 111

thaegumathteth · 04/12/2022 12:01

If it is SF you will need more amoxicillin than you have

Remmy123 · 04/12/2022 15:18

@thaegumathteth yes because they thought he had a absess in his gum but it wasn't so told to stop as no need

111 no help will speak to GP tomorrow and get the right medicine
he has no fever whatsoever feels fine
