Vein looking thing above lip

Hi all, my 18 month old seems to have a visible vein in the skin betwee her upper lip and nose. Especially if she has a trapped burp or has eaten or drunk recently it becomes more prominent but seems to be there all the time. Her tongue, lips and fingers never turn blue and she doesn't struggle to breathe in any way. I mentioned it to her gp a couple of mo ths ago and I was td if it got worse to take her in to be seen but it never gets worse.

Basically I'm just hoping to hear from other mama's who's kidlets have had this? I've attached a photo so you can see what I'm talking about. Is it visible because she's quite pale, I've read somewhere this is cause by venous plexus being engorged but to be honest I have no clue.

Thank you

I can’t see it ?

One of mine had a very visible vein at the top of their nose, and I was told it would disappear as they grew. It did, because can’t remember which of them it was !

I can't see anything there?

Wishiwasatailor · 17/11/2022 06:29

It’s very faint. I would say it’s because she’s fair and it’s close to the skin and will probably go as she gets older. It’s not correlated to breathing or blue lips or tongue.

I can't see what you mean either.

I can't see it on your daughter but my DD had a very visible vein at the top of her nose, where the skin arches over the curve of the eye. Doc said it's because of her skin colour that it's more obvious and nothing to worry about. If it doesn't swell up / become lumpy etc, then I wouldn't worry too much. Like a pp said, I can't see it.

Hi all, thanks for the responses. I guess because I'm around her I can see it clearer. I became a bit anxious yesterday because my friend asked me about it and was acting concerned so I thought I'd ask. I wouldn't even call it a vein, it's just her upper lip has a mildly darker skin tone. Seeing as only one person saw and said it was mild I think I'll just let this go and if it gets darker I'll go back to gp.

Love this community, people are helpful and friendly even if it's a neurotic mama. Appreciate you all.

Hello both my kids have this. One of them
you can see veins running down either side of their mouth but only visible when their mouth is open. If you keep any further forward with it please share.

Yes, I've noticed hers are more visible afyer she's been chewing or drinking from her bottle. It's interesting how the body works.
