Spots on legs… what are they?!?!

Becca393 · 16/11/2022 10:52

So 11 spots came up on my daughters legs on Saturday so 5 days ago. Sunday no more had developed so took her to a gp who said probably chicken pox and to watch for more. More haven’t developed at all and the spots she has haven’t even changed! Not blistered or anything. They are only on her legs. Another gp said possibly hand foot and mouth but today I asked a pharmacist for his advice and he said probably chicken pox which may blister today or tomo or maybe just a viral rash! She had a temp for 48 hours 10 days ago and had a cold and cough ever since! I’m at my wits end because she cannot go back to childcare until they have scabbed over meaning I can’t go back to work which I only started last week so doesn’t look good and what if it’s not even chicken pox anyway!!!! Any ideas 😂😂

Chicken pox spots are "a dew drop on a rose petal" - after the initial red dot they develop into a blister on a red patch. If these haven't, they aren't chicken pox.

If they're firm, pearly and more or less skin-coloured, with a little dimple on top, they could be molluscum, which can last for months.

If she's otherwise well I'd put her in tights and go back to work!

Yeah they are more red with tiny fluid filled on top but just don’t seem to be blistering! 😂 my daughter can never ever run the ‘norm’ lol

They kinda look like chicken pox to me but normally chicken pox starts on the torso and spreads ( that’s how it started with my two children). There was maybe one day of uncertainty but it became pretty obvious by day two that it was chicken pox .

Have you been for a walk in the woods? My whole family came up in itchy bumps like these last month, but we’ve all had chicken pox. Turns out they were harvest mite bites.

Becca393 · 16/11/2022 12:56

No not been outside at all! And if they were bites I’d imagine they would really irritate her which they haven’t and would have gone down by 6 days later?

I found with my middle DS the pox spots started to scab around day 5/6. He was covered all over.
My eldest child had several spots on his legs that we assumed was pox, that he didn't really have much trouble with at all and some didn't really form a typical pox scab. This was when he was 3. He's 9 now and still hasn't had pox properly since like his brother had it. 🤷‍♀️
Very strange. But these do look like pox to me in the photos x

They don't look like chicken pox, more like molluscum to me

bloodywhitecat · 16/11/2022 13:10

I thought molluscum too.

Justwingingitox · 16/11/2022 13:13

I don't think they look like molluscum. 🤣😂 Lord knows. It's hard to tell from a picture sometimes. See what happens over the next day or so OP. I think either way, I believe both are treated at home and get better over time. Hopefully they ease up soon for you both! Xx
