Hey ,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of a coin that does not pass?
3yr old swallowed a 20cent coin 14 days ago and it has not passed yet :(
he had an xray when it happened and it showed in the small intestine, and they said give it 2 weeks it will pass,
hes went to the toilet every day since, hes fine in himself, but im worried now as its been 14 days. is it possible it could still pass? or does anyone know what the procedure is if it doesn't pass?
TIA!

How are things going?

It's been ages since I did Paeds ED but provided the coin was through into the stomach we used to advise parents not to check their kids poo as it is easy to miss the coin and it causes lots of anxiety.

We wouldn't do anything about a coin that had passed into stomach it unless the kid became unwell (tummy ache, vomiting, diarrhoea, not passing poo or wind).

The thing I heard was:
1st child swallows a coin: A&E
2nd child swallows a coin: 111
3rd child swallows a coin: Docked from pocket money

Hi

Thanks so much for replying, its day 18 now and im just back to a&e waiting on another xray as ive been checking poop since, hes went every day, eating drinking everything else is fine, but they did say to bring him back after 2 weeks if not passed, not sure what will happen if its still there?
Last xray it was in the small intestine, its been the most anxious 2 weeks of my life, praying this xray shows its passed and ive missed it or its atleast moved!

Ah good luck OP.
I'm sure all will be OK, especially as he's fine in himself. Keep up updated! X

just had xray and its moved to large intestine, so fingers crossed it wont have any issues from there coming out!

Grin

plus it's a relatively small coin. easy to miss.

unless dc complains about stomach pain then it's most likely fine.
