Hi
My DS has another bug (only 3 weeks ago had a sickness bug), he has sickness and diarrhea, the sickness isn’t too bad it’s mostly diarrhea, since Monday he’s had no normal stools. I’m worried about him dehydrating.

He is fine in himself, I’ve tried the BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple and toast), he won’t eat any bread (which he usually loves, and same with banana) I’ve made pastas etc which he loves but usually vomits after. He won’t drink any dioralyte, he will drink his milk bottles and keep them down though.

Do I just need to ride it out or should I be worried?

How often is he having diarrhoea? How much milk is he drinking? Will he have water too? My DD has it too but she’s not had it for 5 days, I would definitely call the GP in the morning, don’t think you can ever be too careful tbh! The BRAT diet has worked for us in the past but if he won’t eat the bread or banana it’s hard. I hope he feels much better soon, think this winter will be hard!

Definitely call your GP, but when doing the BRAT diet it is just banana, rice, apple and toast. Don’t try bread and pasta. Toasting bread makes it easier to digest.

As long as they aren't dehydrated and are generally ok in themselves (apart from the d&v) I'd ride it out. Let them eat and drink whatever they fancy, worry about healthy living when they're feeling better. But then I'm on dc3 so my threshold for worry is different now.

I would however think about where all these bugs are coming from. Are they at nursery etc? My older 2 are coming down with all sorts now they aren't being made to wash their hands 30 times a day at school

Thanks for your responses. He’s having around 4 diarrhoea explosions a day, he’s drinking water as normal and having around 14 oz of milk. I will call the doctor tomorrow to be safe
