Is this a cold sore/impetigo something else?

My daughter has woken up with this on her face. It's not itchy but it is sore. Any ideas on what it is? No one in the family has cold sores so I don't easily recognise it if you see what I mean. Does it need a GP visit? (Which I will do, obviously v hard to get an appointment etc etc) in

If worried take her to a pharmacy, they will advice you and tell u what cream she may need.

Sorry that link should have been to images not shopping.

As it’s the corner of the Utah it looks like Angular Cheilitis.

GrandOleOpryNights · 08/11/2022 07:57

mouth

Cross post.

My nephew had it and just using some vaseline cleared it up, apparently it’s not always fungal. The sore just needs protecting from saliva to heal in a lot of cases.

NotMyDayJob · 08/11/2022 08:02

It's not angular cheilitis as it's not in the corner of her mouth, it's on the outside. I get angular cheilitis so I know what that is

Definitely pharmacy, not GP.

Can I take a photo to show the chemist? I don't want to take her out of school to go to the chemist as our nearest is difficult to get to

Well if you think it might be impetigo, she shouldn’t be in school until you’re 48 hours into treatment. So no, don’t send her, not fair on others as it’s really contagious. Let the pharmacy see if in person,

You can do but better to take in person. Surprised you've sent your daughter to school though with suspected impetigo.

NotMyDayJob · 08/11/2022 08:30

She's not gone to school yet and I've got no idea if it's impetigo that's why I'm asking. I only knew kne person who had impetigo and that was 20 years ago.

Thanks for your support though, cheers, really helpful with your comments

Just to update DH took her to the chemist and they said cold sore and not impetigo but no treatment really given her age, so we sent her off to school. But it was niggling at me that this might not be right so I took my photos off to another chemist and they said definitely impetigo, so I've picked her up and I'm waiting for a callback from the doctor.

I knew impetigo was very contagious but I didn't know it was something you should keep them off school for. She's my oldest and she's only in yr 1. You don't really know these things until the first time it happens.

Just seen your updates, I hope you didn’t think I was being off with you this morning, I wasn’t at all. 💐

If it’s impetigo, I remember it spreading around my sons class in primary school. Somehow he avoided it despite a couple of his friends catching it, my son was gutted he didn’t get two days off school. 🙄😂
I think it can be hard to tell what it is, so many things look similar, same with body rashes. I’m not surprised the pharmacists have given different answers and like you say, with your first, all these things are new.

Hopefully the will get her sorted and you won’t have to wait too long for a call back.

Thank you. It wasn't you, another poster was a bit goady. We've got some cream now, although DD not very happy about being off because they've got some special visitors (aka Ofsted) in school this week and she doesn't want to miss out 🤣 thank you for your help this morning
