Tips for getting eye drops into toddler?!

17mo DS has been prescribed eye drops for a nasty case of conjunctivitis. I've got to administer them into both eyes 4 times a day but it's impossible!

DS's eyes are obviously really sore and he's fighting me tooth and nail. I'm on my own all day so no one to help. I only have one pair of hands so can't hold him down, hold his head still and get the drops in!

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Wrap him in a towel, sit him over your lap and cuddle him close in one arm with his head wedged between your boob and the crook of your arm. Other hand free for eye drops :)

Been there, done that. It feels awful but it's a necessary evil when they're too young to understand that it'll be over in a jiffy.

Sounds brutal, but the only way I could do it with mine was to lie him on the floor with me kneeling behind him, and his head between my knees. It was also easier of he kept his eyes shut. I aimed the drops into the corners and then he blinked the drops in that way.
And then Smarties Grin

Wrap in sheet sit down on couch with his body behind you almost like a rugby ball do it that way, be firm get it done and have a little cuddle afterwards. It’s not easy op but he’ll get used to it

Could you do it when hes asleep?

MeadowLanes · 02/11/2022 12:18

Thanks all! He's asleep at the moment (and don't want to risk waking him up!) but I'm going to try wrapping him up and basically pinning him down. It just feels so awful! I'll also have chocolate buttons on standby for immediately after!
