TW gross toe image. Is this ingrown nail or something else?

noticed our 4 year olds second toe was red and inflamed yesterday. He has had an ingrown nail before and this looked similar to me as well as just like Google images. It look gross today. He is a picker which doesn't help and has worried at the skin. Currently bathing in salt water.

I offered to send picture to Dr but they weren't interested, earliest appointment is in a week. 2 pictures are yesterday am and today.

I'm thinking a week is too long and might go to show a pharmacist tomorrow after school. My son is delayed in his speech so difficult to know how much pain he is in and if it was caused by trauma. Can anyone advise?

Looks like it was either caused by v bad athletes foot or trauma. Is he behaving as if it's painful? It doesn't appear infected but I think I'd like it looked at if it was my child.

Could you take him to a podiatrist?

We are due to see a nurse on Monday.

Don't think its athletes foot. Came on very quickly and no fungle issues in the house otherwise. He is bare footed most of the time. Trauma is a possibility.

Good that it doesn't appear infected that was my main worry tbh.
