Permanent croup cough

I've posted before about DD's croup sounding cough, which she's had since she was 4months old (she's now nearly 4) it disappears in the summer usually & returns with a vengeance in winter. DD is on blue & brown inhalers in winter for what Docs refer to as seasonal asthma. DD had a cough & cold last week & our lives were very difficult for a few days, as the coughing was constant & LOUD, day & night. No sleep. The cough generally gets me down, just because of the barking, loud sound it always makes. We were out for coffee on Wednesday, DD coughed, man next to us said 'oooh poor thing what a horrible cough!' Same again today whilst we were out, comment made by a little old lady Halloween Blush made me feel crap as I'm already so conscious of it but main thing is DD is ok in herself. Anyway point of this ramble is to ask if anyone out there has ever known a child whose cough just sounds like a croup cough, permanently? Or am I the only one whose child sounds like a barking dog/seal...
