1 year old temp

1 year old has had temp now since Monday. Last Friday at nursery they told me he felt a bit warm and checked his temp and said it was 37.9 so they gave him calpol. Then over the weekend he was absolutely fine no temp however did develop a cough and a really snotty nose. Then Monday lunchtime he woke up with a high temp in the 38 region and since then has been up and down never going below 37 and always feels really hot to touch. The last two nights he's woken up in the middle of the night and had a temp of 39.4 and then last night 40. Been giving him calpol since Monday and will be alternating with nurofen as recommended by the doctor. We went doctors yesterday morning and they said his breathings fine, it could just be viral but both his ears are red and he couldn't be certain cause he was moving and crying but when looking in his mouth he asked if he was off his food and then said he might have seen a white spot on his tonsil. We were given antibiotics so he's had two doses of that already. Has anyone ever experienced having a little one with a temp for as long? Any advice? Thank you.

Yeah my child was like and it was his ears and throat!
Antibiotics can take 2/3 days to kick in so he should be feeling better soon!

Thank you, I'll give it a couple more days and if he's still got the high temp I'll take him back to the doctors. It's so worrying when they can't tell you what's wrong. He woke up last night with a temp of 39.4 but it's gone down this morning. Nurofen seems to help more than calpol!
