Hi all

My just turned 1 YO has HFMD. It's AWFUL. I've never seen anything like it. We're almost 48 hours in and the blisters are still getting worse. I've just got her up from her nap and she's now got lots of tiny blisters all over her lips. She's so uncomfortable, I can't bear it.

How long will it keep getting worse for? And how long does it take for them to start feeling better?

Any advice or anecdotes appreciated

Poxclin cool mousse! Cleared HFM up quickly on tiny children and stops any itchiness!

Thank you! I'll head to the pharmacy this afternoon!

Be careful if you catch it, I got it off ds, had blisters on hands & feet & a horrific rash on my bum. I ended up at A & E, had to be prescribed antihistamines & steroids, the skin on my hands & feet peeled off.

PuddingBear · 28/10/2022 15:17

Yes, I caught it too! It’s horrible 😩

Alternate Calpol and Nurofen. Try to save two of the Nurofen doses for nighttime as that’s worst (iirc it’s maximum 3 doses in 24 hours).

Cold foods like ice lollies can help. Keeping hydrated is the main thing to focus on.

Good luck !

My 11mo has it, we’re on day 5 and she’s just starting to be herself again.
Her appetite disappeared so we were offering soft scrambled egg, yoghurt and smooth baby pouches little and often and upping milk.
Didnt sleep longer than 1 hour at a time for first 3 days but did a 6 hour stretch last night and her usual naps today.
I have it now and feel really wiped out and wobbly but only a couple of little blisters so far

It is horrid, but will start getting better after a few days. Lots of ice lollies and soft food and keep up the painkillers.
You might catch it too (I did, the blisters on my feet were particularly painful, could barely walk).
Don't be worried if her nails drop off some time afterwards, happened to DD about a month later and I was freaked out at first then realised the connection

My just turned 3 year old had it a couple of weeks ago, she was ill for about 2 weeks all in all, with the spots mostly in the second week.

Thank you all. Sounds like we have a few more tricky days ahead. I had no idea it was so nasty.

Have picked up some Poxclin and the pharmacist also recommended Piriton syrup. Fingers crossed!

11 month old son has hand foot and mouth, fever has gone and cold symptoms. Just blisters on hands and feet and groin area. Tonight he’s projectiled his milk and refusing any food. We were at the surgery earlier and they’d said he was on the up ! Should I be worried if he’s being sick now? Anyone had experience of this?

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 13/12/2022 18:55

It is horrid and a tough week indeed.
exactly 6 weeks after having it, my 3 year olds nails dropped off. Every single finger and toe nail just fell off.
It’s very common apparently!
wasn’t painful or anything, just bizarre.
