Dd (almost 20 months) has a lump under her chin which came up like a spot in July. We went to the gp in August when it kept growing and she didn’t know what it was but tried antibiotics (did nothing) and saw us for a follow up a week later. She referred to dermatology and we got a letter in September saying there was a wait of over 18 weeks. In the meantime, it’s doubled in size and dd picked it yesterday and it bled a lot for about 15 minutes so I’m concerned about having to wait until January for even an initial consultation. The letter says to ring if it gets worse/bleeds so I’ve done that but there are no appointments available to book in the local area at all so we just have to wait. My mum has offered to pay for a private consultation so I’ve gone down that route but the local private hospital won’t see children at all and the only other one which does within 50 miles isn’t taking on new patients under 3. I’m just so frustrated that there is nothing we can do except wait for it to get worse and/or hope we don’t end up in A&E if it doesn’t stop bleeding next time she picks at it. Is there anything else we can try or are we just stuck?

Speak to the GP again and ask if they can do an urgent referral to speed up the process.
