8 year old son suddenly wetting the bed?!

Hello you lovely people 💖 just wondering if it's common or there is some hormone growth going on that is causing my 8 year old son to wet the bed? He has never wet the bed before since toilet trained. He doesn't even appear to know he has done it. It has happened 3 times in last 2 months. I'll obviously speak to GP but just curious if anyone experienced similar and if it's age or hormone related?

I would be concerned it was something emotional more than hormonal. Have there been any big changes in his life recently? Otherwise I’d definitely be talking to the GP in case it’s something physical.

I agree with the PP I would be concerned about something 'emotional' taking place. Has anyone new entered his life? Change of school?

I don't want to scare you OP but toileting issues in a previously dry child can sometimes be a sign of sexual abuse. Might be worth having a think about who's spending time with him and whether anything could have happened to upset him.

Could he have worms ?

RuLu · 19/10/2022 20:04

Worms? Might be worth checking

LondonQueen · 19/10/2022 20:05

Have a talk to him and see if anything is upsetting him, sometimes silly fall outs at school can cause this. I would usually suggest UTI but if it's happened over 2 months then I'd imagine not.

I have never heard of threadworms causing bed wetting. Itch bum- yes and discomfort. An 8yr old would be able to inform an adult if he was itchy and uncomfortable down there

That's true, it was just a suggestion. NHS mentions bed wetting as a symptom and it was the only symptom my daughter had. But she is not 8.

Another vote for worms or a rumbling UTI.

cushioncovers · 19/10/2022 20:13

UTI?

MarshmallowMadness · 19/10/2022 20:13

Worms, UTI most likely.
Something worrying him also a possibility.

Anunusualfamily · 19/10/2022 20:13

Constipation can put pressure on the bladder

Tidypidy · 19/10/2022 20:17

Type 1 diabetes is also a possibility. Look out for the 4 Ts - Thirsty Thinner Tired Toilet

Thank you all for the replies they are so appreciated. We worm treat twice a year here but I think it may be emotionally triggered due to a school issue which has now hopefully been resolved. He has previously been tested for Diabetes due to family association and I have a diabetes test kit which I think I might use on him over next few days to check levels. Thanks again ❤️

@tidypidy this was our initial concern a year ago. He ticks all the boxes but bloods test were fine. They may need to be repeated. Thank you.
