DS8 sore tiny lump under nipple

Fannydango · 17/10/2022 22:12

He said tonight his nipple feels bruised and when I felt it, there was a tiny pea sized lump, like a little spot under the skin. I know boys can sometimes get breast buds but it doesn’t feel like that (I have an older DD so I know what they feel like, plus I remember getting them when I was young).

What could it be - some sort of cyst?

I'd book to get GP to feel and assess it. Could be a multitude of things.

I was going to hold off a couple of days to see how it was - I get very anxious about health and tend to book appointments immediately as my mind goes into overdrive and I convince myself that the most minor conditions are the worst case scenario, rather than giving things like this a day or two to settle down. I find it very hard to judge what actually warrants an immediate GP trip. Just wondered if anyone had any experience or whether on this occasion I DO need to take him straight to the GP?

hi I just wondered how you got on with this? I’m trying to find other posts but there isn’t much on this issue in terms of people’s experience. My 4 week old boy has just developed a lump under one nipple it’s quite pronounced

Hi @DaphneFrances It went away on its own within a few days, I’m happy to say.

Is this your first baby? I seem to remember being told it’s VERY common for babies to get lumps like this - I think it’s something to do with hormones. I know it’s very worrying when you find something like that on your baby - of course mention it to your HV or take him to the dr but as I say, I believe it’s very common and nothing to worry about. X

Thanks for you reply! He’s my 2nd but my first never had it. I noticed the other day he had breast buds, but the one side has grown. Going to message the gp tomorrow x

I’m sure it’ll be fine but always good to hear it from a Dr than a random unqualified MNer! Hope all goes well. X

My DD had this. Breast buds but bigger on one side and the nipple was inverted. It was nothing. The GP said my hormones were passing to her via breastfeeding (or something like that, it was years ago)

Thank you I spoke with GP today he said nothing to worry about. Very relieved for my sweet boy

That’s brilliant, glad he’s ok.
