5yo severe stomach pain

My 5yo yesterday had a sore tummy which worsened, at points he was curled up crying saying it hurt too much. He was walking hunched over and said it hurt more when he stood up.
It is really out of character and I could see he was genuinely in pain and upset.

Previous to this, ongoing issues with bowel movements for 5 weeks, they've been really soft and urgent need to go. Mild tummy pain sometimes but nothing he really complained about too much.

I took him to a&e and they didn't find anything immediately concerning, sent us home and said to keep on top of pain relief.

Keeps having bouts of severe pain. Do we just ride it out?

Get an urgent gp appointment and talk this through with the doctor. Have there been any dietary changes?

What tests did they do in A&E? I'd probably agree with an urgent GP appointment. If it gets worse go back to A&E, ditto if there's any vomitting or if any of the bowel movements look red or black or smell metallic.
