9yr old has an nhs audiology appointment soon but the receptionist who booked us in wasn’t able to confirm exactly what happens. The referral is due to an aversion to loud noises, there’s no other issue or concerns with hearing, speech, language etc.

With my son they sat us in a room and sat my son at the table in the middle of the room and tucked his chair in so he can’t run off and a nurse sat opposite him to play with building blocks quietly then there was a speaker either side of the room and different sounds would play from the speaker and when my son looked over at the speaker the speaker would light up and inside was a toy that would shake. The light would go off and a few seconds later another noise would play. They were different tones of noises to see what sounds his ears picked up. I’m unsure if this is what will happen for your child but this is how it was for my child he was 3 at the time. The appointment was because he didn’t talk at all and didn’t respond to his name. He ended up failing the hearing test
