Leg pain in 7yo

DS(7) has been having intermittent lower leg pain for quite some time, probably most of this year. When he starts walking it can be anything from 15 mins to 2 hours before he starts to complain of pain from under his knee to his ankles. Both legs, all around the leg. It happens during the day when he’s most active, not in the evening.

People kept saying to me ‘meh, it’s growing pains’ however after this has been getting more frequent and lately almost constant I took him to the GP who has referred him to a paediatric physio (waiting list about 6 weeks). GP does not think it’s growing pains at all, particularly as growing pains are mostly likely in the evening/night after having been active during the day. DS’ pains start while he is active from the morning onwards. It’s really affecting where we go as sometimes he constantly sits down on the ground at every opportunity and complains a lot and we’ve had to curtail what we do when out.

I have Hypermobility and flat feet and the GP said it could be the former, but his feet are normal. He wants the physio to assess him and see if it’s something mechanical that can be dealt with by specific shoes or exercises etc. DS is an active, fit child who does plenty of physical activity and sport so it’s not like he’s a couch potato who aches when he does have to walk.

Has anyone experienced similar with their young DC?

Yes, podiatrist needed

Sure this is less relevant but magnesium deficiency is a common cause of leg pains and most of the population are deficient in it so there might be no harm in trying a magnesium oil or soaking in magnesium baths
