Toddler speaks late.

Hello,
my little 2 years and 7 months is apparently with "delayed" speech.

He speaks about 20 words like "dad, mom, grandpa, dog, pee, foot, no, yes, water, etc..."
He often puts two or three words together from his vocabulary to create simple sentences in context.
In addition, it imitates sounds of dozens of animals, cars, etc.

Some additional remarks:

  • there are no signs of autism in him at this time.
  • he is doing speech sessions but there is no "diagnosis".
  • all his other skills are in full development: socio-emotional, motor, cognition, etc...

Anyone else here with little supposedly toddler late talkers?
Evidently many kids his age talk a lot more than he does, so it worries me sometimes.

Thanks for listening.

Yes. Covid lockdowns didn't help. Keep talking through your day with them, it will come. Don't pressure it.

He sounds fine, just a little behind but all children develop differently. Did the person who told you this give you any support or resources to help his speech?

Speech therapy basically suggested continuing to read to him, talking and giving him time to respond verbally.
Any other suggestion would be welcome.
