Body Odour in 12 yr old

messyhairmessyhouse · 07/09/2022 11:45

Wasn't sure where best to post this. My 12 dd is struggling with body odour. We have tried many, many deoderants but not found one that works well. I'm trying to make sure she washes thoroughly as I suspect that's not helping but want to try a new deoderant too. Ideally after something quite gentle. Any recommendations?

Wash with a bar of soap not shower gel. Probably scrub with a lily or a wash cloth ,makes sure she not just splashing around.

Sure Maximum protection is the best I've found.

Clean shirt every day.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2022 11:50

PROPERLY not probably

This is the best. My 12 year old uses it.

Ha same recommendation as above poster. 👍

Washing properly is key, as above make sure she's getting in there with the soap, and that it's really thoroughly washed off, and this for me was the best one. (Before I got old and my armpits gave up bothering to smell!)

GreenManalishi · 07/09/2022 11:54

Yes, also clean clothes, including bra if necessary, daily.

Yes, that's the stuff! Amazing!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/09/2022 11:58

I absolutely reek using Mitchum and I'm not particularly sweaty, just does nothing for me. Different strokes for different folks.

grey12 · 07/09/2022 12:04

Shaving the armpits? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, I use salt deodorant. You apply it straight after the shower. Has been quite good. It prevents over growth of the bacteria, they don't like the salty environment.

WithASpider · 07/09/2022 12:06

Agree with PP, make sure she's using bar soap. If you can get an antibacterial one even better, DS uses Dettol soap - lavender scented! Proper antiperspirant too rather than deodorant.
Could be her clothes too, unless there's a skin issue use biological powder on 30. Currently on my 3rd stinky teen!

kimchifox · 07/09/2022 12:07

Yes to Sure - DD and I both use it as it's the only one I've found d to work. Also make sure clothes are not still smelly after washing - BO can linger in armpits of shirts etc - I have found the antibacterial stuff you add to the wash (dettol laundry cleanser I think it's called) to be highly effective at getting rid of lingering sweaty /body odour and it seems gentle on clothes.

Yes to the Sure deodorant mentioned above. It’s called Maximum Protection and comes in a box. Costs extra unfortunately but often on offer I find. Really works.

Same here! I bought it when it was on offer and thought that must be why it's reduced.
Since swapped to Fussy after seeing them on Dragon's Den and no more stinky pits!!

PeekAtYou · 07/09/2022 12:25

Does she wear a blazer to school? It was impossible to get my kids blazer to smell neutral.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 07/09/2022 12:29

DD13 really struggles with strong body odour - sometimes it can smell almost oniony! She wants me to buy a deodorant which costs about £12 but it’s refillable & recyclable. Can’t think of the name. Maybe Wild?

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 07/09/2022 12:34

We use dove or sure. My girls also have one each in their school bags to reapply at break time(if they feel they need to) and before and after PE.

Gah, sorry! It used to be the business, outdated information, I take it back!

It probably used to contain some nuclear ingredient that's now been banned and removed from the formulation!

noclothesinbed · 07/09/2022 15:03

Probably not washing properly

messyhairmessyhouse · 08/09/2022 00:24

Thanks for all the suggestions. Off deoderant shopping tomorrow & have already given a demonstration of washing armpits - with bar soap!
