Can I hear from others whose babies were late teethers?

Did you see a specialist?

What age did the first ones come through?

Were your babies of a low birth weight by any chance?

Thanks

I actually had a similar MN thread on this a while ago. Lots of dentists replied and it was quite reassuring :)

My DD cut her first two teeth at 13months. She was 5lb 12oz.

I happened to have a dentist appt when she was 11months so i took her with me. The dentist checked her mouth, said she could feel the teeth under the gums and to make another appointment for 18months so if they hadn't come at that point, she could be referred elsewhere.

She's now 14months and just getting her next two so very slow progress.

Dd1 got her first tooth at 12 months but then she got loads in quick succession. She was 8lbs 12 so definitely not a low birth weight!

You just need to take them to a dentist for actual assessment.

Could be normal, could also not be normal.

My DD got her first tooth at 12 months. She’s 2.3 years old and still hasn’t got her back molars. She was 3lb 9oz at birth (36 weeks).

I don’t think it’s a cause of concern until 18 months.

Dc1 (prem, 5lb) got their first tooth at 1 year old.
Dc2 (just full term, 6lb) got theirs at 14 months.

Dc1 also didn't lose first baby tooth till age 7.

Tigrillo · 27/08/2022 22:27

I didn't see any specialists. I mentioned dd didn't have any teeth at 11 and a bit months to the health visitor who said not to worry. And I didn't worry about Dc2 because I'd already had one late teether.

Had the same,,,teeth finally appeared and all was ok.

loulouljh · 27/08/2022 22:30

and no, not low birth weight. Baby teeth fell out very late too.

itsthesound · 27/08/2022 22:33

Teeth just before her first birthday. 7lb 6 at birth.

My DS got his teeth at 19 months. He weighed 5’12 at birth. His teeth are grand.Dentist said he was at the late end of teeth appearing but that’s it.

Teaandcrochet · 27/08/2022 22:54

My DS got his first tooth at 19 months - it was great as he had no pain or issues with teething and had all his teeth by the time he was 4. He did see a dentist around 13 months I think but they weren't too concerned. He was 5 weeks prem and under 5lb when born if that's any help?

Hi all

Thanks so much for responding. I am really relieved to hear the range of responses. Definitely time for a dentist visit for a physical examination. My husband mentioned it to his hygienist recently who said not to worry.... but alas I worry!

DS1 was almost 18 months before he got his first tooth. No harm in getting a dentists opinion though if you’re worried

DD2 got her first tooth around 18 months, she was 2 weeks late & weighed 9lb!

She got them in relatively quick succession but wasn’t really bothered by it, I don’t remember giving her teething gel like I did with DD1, who had her first tooth around 8 months & was also 2 weeks late & weighed 9lb!!

She’s 9 now & her teeth are fine. She lost her first baby tooth at 6 & seems to be losing them at the same rate as her peers.

Thanks both @Ducksallovertheplace @Inmyownlittlecorner
