Sore on leg (picture included)

DS (10 years old - no health issues) has had a sore on his leg for the past ten days. It's below his knee. He doesn't remember how he got it and doesn't think he bumped against anything. It's painful and it seems to be getting slightly bigger by the day. Does anyone know what this could be? He is wearing a plaster over it most of the time.

Has he got any other patches anywhere? Maybe psoriasis or eczema.

I'd advice leaving the plaster off and creaming daily with a moisturiser or sudocrem. If it doesn't clear up then make an appointment with the Gp.

I'm a nurse.

I’d be off to gp with that. Could be impetigo or some other infection.

Impetigo

Thank you both for your prompt and helpful replies. No psoriasis or eczema and no other patches on his body. Will leave the plaster off and moisturise. If it's not getting better, I will take him to the GP.

Looks similar to this image of impetigo

Yes, impetigo. It's quite contagious.

Agree it could well be impetigo. Thanks for your replies! That would explain why it's getting bigger and why it appeared out of the blue. He had impetigo in the face when he was a toddler.

Thanks to your messages, I took DS to the GP on Thursday. He prescribed a cream against impetigo and other skin conditions, as he was not able to make
a diagnosis. We are applying the cream twice as day but it seems to be getting worse. I am attaching another photo. DS is feeling well, no other symptoms or health concerns.
