Hi.

so my 6 month old had a viral rash last week, query it was hand foot mouth. He was checked over by OOH GP who thought it to be viral. He had 4 blisters on a toe, a couple on each finger and his mouth appeared sore for a day (refused a dummy and milk). He had a light pink like heat rash all over, he got better as quick as it started.

Now, a week later my 4 year old has come down with a high fever.
It started yesterday after preschool he had a nap and woke up looking hot. So I let him wake up and took his temp and it was 38.
Since then it’s crept up to 39.5 (at the highest).
i have given calpol and neurofen for kids twice and it comes down, but goes back up.
Apart from being a little tired, he’s fine in himself, off his food a little bit but drinking fine and passing urine. He has no other signs of illness.
he’s had the fever for 20 hours now with no other symptoms really.

is this weird?
i have health anxiety…. and always thinking the worst so now I can’t even think reasonable…..

Not sure, would like to see the other replies. Have you looked on NHS site?
Also I lived abroad for quite a few years when my children were small and we were encouraged to let a fever run it's course as it was the body's natural defense mechanism to flight the virus/ bacteria. So giving paracetamol wasn't helping the body recover quickly. Good luck xx

Thankyou for taking time to reply.
I’m just not sure if it could be the start of HFM for him or not.
it’s baffling me as apart from fever and tiredness he’s ok…

How's he now?
Fine and dandy I hope - kids usually make miraculous recoveries..
Mine were sent home from nursery years ago with hfm- I hardly noticed it.. they weren't even ill really.

I think the fever broke last night he started sweating and his fever went down. He’s been fever free since late last night, no signs of HFM though. Query just a random fever that 4 year olds get.

again, thankyou for taking the time to reply and check up, I actually appreciate this.

My 4 year old had this last week. Awful temperature (41 at one point) he was completely laid up with it, but zero other symptom. It passed in a couple of days too.
