Swollen abdomen

My 5 year old DS’s abdomen looks really swollen today. For context he isn’t constipated however does do massive poos. Not normal from what I’ve seen from my other DC at all.

I’ve at attached some pictures, he seems fine in himself but it’s the shape at the bottom I’m worried about.

Is he urinating normally?

Tummytroubles22 · 27/07/2022 19:39

I’ll keep an eye on his urine output (I’ve just finished nightshifts so my mum has been looking after him).

My son can look quite bloated like this and he does massive poos too! I don't know how they fit and they take about 10 flushes! He's always topless so I do notice he's bloated quite a lot but I've put it down to him needing the toilet as he seems to always go at night time! He never has any pain or anything. Could your son be similar but you haven't noticed the swelling because he usually has clothes on?!

I have noticed it sometimes when he is in the bath but I’ve never noticed it being so round before. My mum had commented a fair bit on how big his bowel movements are so I might just be being a bit paranoid!

Is it firm feeling/hard?

quickbathroombreak · 27/07/2022 19:59

Possibly is constipated, my DD was bloated and dig big poos when constipated. How often does he do them?

Valhalla17 · 27/07/2022 20:02

Yes good point, big poos usually because they are holding it for a long time or constipated...so builds up

Soonberaining · 27/07/2022 20:04

Get him checked out. Many things can cause a swollen abdomen.

Tummytroubles22 · 27/07/2022 20:27

He poos every day and I’m not kidding when I say they can be 10 inches long and is type 4 Bristol stool chart. Sorry TMI

One of my DC often looked like this and had the massive poo issue too. Dr suspected coeliac disease (turns out it wasn't that but they do have non-coeliac gluten intolerance which had caused them to be underweight and malnourished). I'd see your GP. DC now has a gluten free diet and is much healthier.

My DD is coeliac and her stomach looked like that. Wee was fine but she was gassy and had lots of white blobs of mucus in her poo. As soon as she was diagnosed and off gluten, her stomach is flat as a pancake. Ask GP to check stomach and do bloods
