Infant Dyschezia

I think my 6 week old has infant dyschezia - she is constantly grunting trying to pass wind/poop until she eventually cries out. Once she cries out for a couple of minutes, I pick her up to comfort her, and attempt to massage, but this tends to distract her from her pooping. I am wondering whether I am interfering with her learning to poop? She only poops every 3-4 days at the moment and this might be due to the GP prescribing lactulose. Has anyone else had experience of this? How long did it last for? Do you have any tips to help your LO poop?

I don’t have any advice, but think my 2 week old is experiencing the same thing!

seemingly in discomfort, straining, stretching her legs, crying on and off until eventually pooping a very normal poo. Only difference being my LO goes a couple of times a day so this is happening quite often at the moment.

My DS1 was like this. He almost became afraid of going. Thankfully it was just a phase and he grew out of it

Hi! My little one is going through this at the moment. She is 9 weeks and it started when she was about 4/5 weeks old. She struggles every day with it, constantly straining and trying to poo - passing wind seems to have gotten better/easier. We were incorrectly prescribed lactoluse, which caused her excess gas, so more pain and discomfort! I saw another doctor yesterday who explained she isnt constipated, just trying to work out the right muscles to use! Is your little one still going through this?
