Heat exhaustion

My eight year old daughter came home from school, understandably sweaty in this weather. She said she felt really hot and had done all day, again understandable in the circumstances.

she played in the paddling pool when she got home, under a parasol, and then it clouded over and it started to rain. She had a shower after.

at bedtime she complained about her head really hurting, I gave her some cal pol and a flannel to help, and a short while later she vomited a lot. She seemed to perk up after that, and now she’s fallen fast asleep.

I’m a bit worried with all the advice about watching out for heatstroke, so just wondered if there’s anything I should be looking out for? I took her temperature when she complained about her head and it was normal. At the moment I’m ‘watching over her’ while she sleeps but tbh I don’t know what I’m looking for

Fluids. At every opportunity get her drinking clear fluids. Diorayte if you have it if not dilute squash with 1tsp of sugar and 1/4 tsp of salt. It tastes best with lemon or lime squash. Serve it at room temperature.

If she can't keep fluids down take her to a&e.

Thank you, she drank plenty this evening and had a few sips of water after being sick. She’s fast asleep now, don’t know whether to just let her rest, given that she perked up after

If she is drinking that is a good sign. Sounds like she needs rest.. but if in doubt call 111.

It is going to get much cooler tonight so hopefully she gets a good sleep in.
